“High strangeness” is a term we often hear bandied about, but few firm definitions exist on what actually constitutes “high strangeness.” For many, the researcher and lay-person alike, when it actually bites you in the posterior, you do not doubt that it exists and, whether you like it or not, you have to come to grips with this often disturbing and confusing change in your worldview.
It can cause an existential crisis in some, a sense of wonderment in others, and a feeling of plain old confusion in most. What if there was a map or guide to help us navigate these strange and mysterious waters? Luckily for the seasoned traveler and novice alike, there is one, “My Cosmic Trigger (Vol. 1) - High Strangeness in Theory and Practice” by my good friend Matt Vaughn.
In this first volume, Matt explains what is and is not “high strangeness” based on various theories and understandings of these multi-faceted phenomena. Probably the most illuminating portion of the book is the numerous first-hand accounts of these encounters, how the experiencer was affected, and most importantly, the manner in which he incorporated it into his existing worldview.
Matt helps us understand these events, absent from fear, confusion, and dread, from a personal, experiential and humanistic perspective and how they can help us grow as human beings and will make us better parents, friends, and people.
Matt Vaughn is a name you will be hearing more and more of as he helps us peel back the veneer of these perplexing events and make us all better for the experience. If you are a student of the strange and uncanny, do yourself a favor and add this book to your library, you won’t be disappointed.

"Spanning a multitude of perspectives, My Cosmic Trigger interrogates the paranormal with a unique analysis of high strangeness offering the reader an accessible, yet highly integrative approach that produces new insights on the seemingly logic-defying interconnections between exceptional experiences of all kinds.
With the earnest care that only a psychotherapist can provide, Vaughn details cutting edge field work being done in liminal geographic spaces or window areas, and brings the esoteric to the public through a highly practical analysis of egregores, and synchronicity. The work is clearly informed by both an academic and occult tradition that only adds further credence to the pages contained therein resulting in a worthy achievement that helps us better understand the weird connections between seemingly disparate paranormal events."

“We have always tried to make sense of how this world works–from explanations involving the whims of the gods to the physics of Newton. There is comfort in a story we can hang our hat on. But discoveries like Quantum Mechanics throw a wrench in the predominant worldview of a rational, materialistic universe and challenged confidence in our ability to predict, control, and explain everything, which has been the goal of the scientific age. Science has never been the problem, the problem is inquiry without the radical empiricism , radical openness that allows room for seeing new connections as to how it might all work. This book opens fresh possibility for seeing; it is crazy, fun, smart, startling and ultimately invites us into the mysterious, the unknown. Surely there will be dead ends in the pursuit of high strangeness, but more importantly this work radically opens to a world still full of mystery, one in which our tidy default explanations and dismissive reactions turn out to be way too small and stubbornly naïve. Buckle up.”
